The region of Abona is located on the southern slope of the island, in the areas of Adeje, Arona, Fasnia, Granadilla de Abona, San Miguel, Vilaflor and Arico. Vineyards on this region are found in differents zone with quite diverse climate conditions, from 300 meters to 1,700 meters above sea level.

Soil

The vineyard extends from 400 meters up to 1,700 altitude, differentiating two strata in relation to this factor.
A medium level, ranging from 400 to 800m, volcanic terrain very porous, able to absorb water from the humidity of the environment, and a high area, from the border of the mediocrity, reaches 1,700 m. In Vilaflor, truly amazing altitude for the cultivation of the vine.

Climate

The climate is very sunny and dry, although, due to its orientation, it can still receive some effect of the trade regime, especially in the elevated areas. In any case, it is a mild Mediterranean climate, with extraordinary sanitary conditions, which allows for a vineyard crop where phytosanitary treatments are practically not necessary.

Reds

Authorized: Bastardo negro, Malvasía rosada, Tintilla, Vijariego negro , Tintilla, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Ruby Cabernet, Syrah, Tempranillo , Castellana Negra.
Preferred: Listán negro, Moscatel negro, Negramoll.

Whites

Authorized: Bastardo blanco, Forastera blanca, Listán blanco, Pedro Ximenez, Sabro, Torrontés, Vijariego.
Preferred: Bermejuela, Gual , Malvasia, Moscatel, Verdello.

Production zones

In 1995, D.O. Abona, which includes the municipalities of Adeje Arona, Vilaflor, San Miguel de Abona, Granadilla, Arico and Fasnia, in the south of the island. The vineyards of this region are cultivated mostly in jable lands (white volcanic ash) that produce very aromatic wines and of great temperament.
