Tacoronte-Acentejo was the first winemaking region in the Canary Islands to be authorised as a Designation of Origin in 1992 . The region spreads over the municipalities of Tacoronte, Santa Ursula, Tegueste, La Matanza de Acentejo, La Victoria de Acentejo, El Sauzal, La Laguna and part of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The area is under the influence of the humidity of the Atlantic and the trade winds. Most of its vineyards are between 300 and 750 meters in altitude.
Area: 2.422 Ha.
Max. Production: 100 Qm/Ha
Soil
The plantations are in terraces, on steep slopes facing north and facing the sea. The soils are reddish, rich in organic matter, with little proportion of lime and abundant nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
Climate
Except for exceptional incursions from the scorching African gale, the northern coastal region is subject to the action of northern winds which, while the influence of altitude does not manifest, determine a mild and pleasant climate with great thermal regularity: the daytime oscillation is barely noticeable And the annual reaches more about 7 ° C. Although the sky is cloudy and the atmosphere very heavy with humidity (60% relative humidity), rainfall is scarce as temperate temperatures prevent the condensation of this moisture.
