Geography
Tenerife is one of the seven volcanic islands that form the Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean, between the 28th and 29th parallel N and the meridians 16th and 17th O. Slightly north of the Tropic of Cancer, just over 300 kilometres away from the African continent and about 1.000 kilometres away from the Iberian peninsular, Tenerife takes up a central position between the islands of Gran Canaria, La Gomera and La Palma.
With 2.034,38 km2 distributed in a triangular shape, Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands. Moreover its coastline is the longest of the Canary with 342 kilometres. Teide, a 3.718 metres above the sea level volcano, is recognized as the highest point in Spain.
